Pick of the Month: May / Children's rooms

All from Apartment Therapy / Nursery & Kids
And we are house hunting again! Our one bedroom apartment, which we love, is not going to fit our family of three for much longer. So here we are, looking for the perfect house, the perfect location, the perfect price!
Is going to be a long search, I'm sure, until we'll fall in love with another place again, but it will happen at some point and I want to be ready. I'm already dreaming about decor, style, rooms to fill and new furniture to buy, but most of all I'm dreaming about Olivia's room! I haven't had the fortune to decorate a nursery for my little Miss before she was born as we didn't have a room for her, and still don't. I missed the chance to do what most pregnant women do, that nesting instinct that you get during pregnancy was only halfway fulfilled. Now I want to make up for the missed opportunity and get it perfect. I have a pretty clear idea on how I would like her room to look like; white walls and bold colours for evething else, including furniture. And while brousing on Apartment Therapy, I have found some rooms that inspired me and gave me more ideas to take on board. I can't wait!

Walk to work

I have been often taken pictures during my short walk to work to use them as a reference for any potential drawing/painting.  Needless to say that none of those pictures have so far made their way onto any sort of paper. So lately, I have decided to forget about my painting plans and to try making my journey more interesting by just taking a picture every day. I have been using my IPhone for taking picture as it makes it so easy and accessible, and have been posting them on instagram with the #walktowork hashtag (here). I have mainly used two filters: Amaro (my favourite) and Earlybird, and not added any frame.
The subject of the photos is very random, I shoot whatever I feel like and fancy that morning, could it be the weather, my shoes or some flowers. I don’t have a theme, but I’m thinking of picking one every week and see where this goes.
I am very lucky to say that my morning walk to work only takes about 10 minutes. It takes me through two sets of traffic lights, a nice little one way road, with terraced houses on both sides and pretty gardens. I pass by a church, two primary schools and Olivia’s nursery too, which is quite handy when I drop her off in the morning and pick her up at lunchtime. There are other routes I could use, but this one is my favourite as it is quiet and I love experiencing the seasons through the changes that happen in the front gardens along the way.
It’s a nice and relaxed walk, shame it leads me to the office in the morning!

NOTE: I have been in St John’s Wood for two days last week, and that made an interesting change of scenery to my morning walks, if not adding about one hour each way to my daily commute!

21/52

This project is still a joy to be part of. My posting time has changed slightly over the past couple of months, and I blame the weather and the clock change for it. We are finding ourselves spending more time outdoors during the weekend, although the English weather has not been totally on our side. And that means not really wanting to spend time in front of my laptop on Sunday morning. So here I am, posting on Tuesday morning because it was a Bank Holiday weekend this week and it was unexpectedly sunny and warm and we stayed outside as much as we could.

This week you:
  • Whispered 'mamma' and 'papa' in your sleep and it was so sweet to hear it.
  • Learned to go down the big slide by yourself.
  • Had a couple of troubled nights because of teething. And for the first time we had to go for a car ride to let you fall asleep.
  • Got excited as soon as you realised we were about to change the bed sheets. You know we let you play hide and seek with the duvet and make a hammock with the sheets for you to sling in.
  • Fell in love with your new chair. It's still a bit high for you to be able to sit by yourself, so you learned to climb on it and stand up, turn and then sit down. But we are now thinking of hiding it from you as it looks dangerous.
  • You kept blabbering pretending to read almost everytime we asked you to.
  • You got some new toys and loved playing with them.
From last week's posts I got hooked up by ten thousand stars dance photos by Sabrina Schellkes and her approach at documenting her journey through different themes each week. Love it!

Bath time
This week you:
  • Blabbered and blabbered and blabbered. And we loved listening to you.
  • Let me put your plastic bib on during meal times after months of messy clothes. And loved going around the house wearing it. Unfortunately it only lasted one day!
  • Replied 'mamma' with a cheeky laugh every time your dad asked you who you love the most. It seemed like you were doing it on purpose.
  • Tried on your new sandals and t-shirt and wouldn't let me take them off despite the chilly temperatures.
  • Learned how to make the noise of a dog...finally.
And from last week portraits I'm loving Finnian and Ronan from Capturing Moments hiding in a ball pool, they must have had so much fun!

Our trip to Italy in photos

We spent the week between the end of April and beginning of May visiting my family in Calabria, Southern Italy. We had a fabulous time, the weather was great and it didn’t rain once…that’s all we needed after a very long and cold winter here in London. We had long walks on the beach, celebrated my birthday, ate lots of ice creams and pizza, went out for breakfast and had some alone time while my parents were enjoying themselves looking after Olivia. It was very refreshing, and made us realise once more how hard it is being just us here, with no family around.
We are so looking forward to the next summer holiday!
